Most Amish people don't go to school beyond 8th grade and must learn a particular craft or trade or farming to make a living. Another kind of business you are most likely to see if you go to a traditionally Amish town such as Sugarcreek, Ohio is an Amish owned bakery. The women in the Amish community have very traditional roles as taking care of the children and the home which includes cooking and cleaning. Young girls are taught how to cook and bake from scratch at a small age and many of the ingredients that they use they grow themselves on their land. Not only are the fruit pies and homemade breads sold at this bakery are yummy, their prices are quite a bit lower than a traditional bakery and the quality is so much higher. It is worth purchasing additional items to put in your freezer because they are such a treat. Women are also expert sewers traditionally making all of their own clothing for themselves and their families. Many women sell their goods at local shop or at craft fairs. Quilting is something the Amish women are well trained at and the quilts that they hand make are pieces of art and just gorgeous. These, much like the furniture and baked goods are quite reasonably priced and are usually better than a quilt you may find elsewhere. If you are wishing to purchase some wonderful handmade baked goods or jellies or need a new piece of furniture or would like to present a homemade quilt as a wedding gift, look into buying something created by the Amish.
